This event is part of TPL’s signature Salon Series, where we host local and international authors, artists and thinkers in conversation about their new books and big ideas.

Note: This is an in-person event at The Bram and Bluma Appel Salon, the premiere event space for Toronto Public Library’s cultural and heritage programming located on the second floor of the Toronto Reference Library (789 Yonge Street).

Arrive early, meet people. The talk starts at 7 pm, but doors open at 6 pm. Come early so you can chat with your fellow literature lovers, and make new friends. As with all Appel Salon events, we’ll have a cash bar with a selection of beer and wine, as well as sandwiches and snacks.

Reminder!  TPL oversells these events to make sure that most people have an opportunity to attend. Tickets are only guaranteed until 15 minutes before the show starts, at which point we will start opening up available spots to the rush line.

This event will not be live streamed but the replay will be made available to watch on TPL’s YouTube channel.

Award-winning author Rebecca Makkai discusses her new book which was named a “most anticipated book of 2023” by more than 30 outlets.

Award-winning author Rebecca Makkai’s new book is a transfixing mystery. Set in the woods of New Hampshire, the novel follows a film professor and podcaster forced to reckon with her past and reexamine the murder of her high school classmate.  A page-turner and a profound and deeply felt novel that interrogates our cultural obsession with true crime and violence against women.

Makkai’s last novel, The Great Believers, was a finalist for both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.

Books will be for sale and the event will conclude with a book signing.

What is the Spring Literary Luncheon?

The Friends of Milwaukee Public Library’s annual Spring Literary Luncheon is an event we all look forward to every year. Gathering with so many like-minded individuals who love all things literary is a special annual treat each spring. The luncheon is sponsored by the Friends of the Milwaukee Public Library, the Wisconsin Club, and Boswell Book Company and will include a book signing and raffle. Over the years, the Spring Literary Luncheon has attracted sell-out crowds and award-winning authors including Elisabeth Strout, David Maraniss, Madeline Miller, Mary Higgins Clark, Ruth Reichl, Sue Monk Kidd, Sara Gruen, and Louise Erdrich, among many others.
