Poets & Writers Magazine Dinner at AWP

Happening Thursday, March 1st, 6:30 pm

I could rephrase it all, but after a long day of writing I’m opting for  good old plagiarism. From the Poets & Writers website:

Please join us for dinner and conversation with special guests Rebecca Makkai, Audrey Niffeneger, and Scott Turow on Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m.

We’ll meet at Reza’s, 432 West Ontario Street, for a family style dinner and plenty of good discussion. Members of the Poets & Writers staff will be on hand to greet you–and to thank you for your support as a Friend. Plus, our special guests will each read from their latest books.

This event is hosted by Nick Vergoth, a member of Poets & Writers’ Board of Directors.

There is no charge for members of the Friends of Poets & Writers at the Contributor ($100) level and higher. Those who are members at the Friends ($50) or Associate/Student ($35) levels may upgrade to the Contributor level. If you are not currently a Friend of Poets & Writers, please join today! If you’d like to bring a companion, additional tickets are available at $50 each.

RSVPs are required to attend. Space is limited and reserved for Friends at the Contributor ($100) level and above.

Panel and Reading at AWP

Happening Thursday, March 1st, Friday, March 2nd

I will be making two appearances at the AWP in Chicago. On March 1st, I will take part in the panel The Renaissance of Midwestern Literature (yes, a Renaissance, folks, look out for the sexy tunics) with fellow New Stories from the Midwest honorees Bonnie Jo Campbell, Mark Wisniewski and Dan Chaon, moderated by series editor Jason Lee Brown. The panel will take place on Thursday, March 1st from 4:30 to 5:45 in the Lake Ontario room on the 8th floor of the Hilton Chicago. More details and a full panel schedule are here.

Then on Friday, March 2nd, I’ll be reading offsite at the Weather Mark Tavern (walking distance from the conference) at the Crazyhorse/Bat City Review reading, along with a pack of other lovely writers, from 5 to 6:30.

Long Island Press names Borrower one of Five Best Books of 2011

Long Island Press has generously listed The Borrower as one of the top five books of 2011, calling it “charming and un-put-downable.” (It’s true that Ian is 3% more charming when you read his dialogue in a Brooklyn accent.)

I have a new interview up here at Authorlink. All about what I’m working on now, historical research, and how writing a novel is like being a first-year teacher.
